STUPID E-MAILS & THE IDIOTS WHO SEND THEM

May 6, 2002

Today I recieved, in my AOL mailbox (curse it) a rather stupid e-mail, idiotic at only a level which AOL users can boast. Being as lazy as I am, perhaps I might have waited until it was due time for my next rant before writing this one, but I felt a duty to the internet community to expose idiocy that doesn't quite fit into the categories featured at When Idiots Collide.

The e-mail was a very sad attempt at scamming me out of my AOL screename and password. The e-mail written quite too primitively to have ever come from AOL (which, while it is a crappy program, has a usually has a decent layout) informed me that I had won a prize from American Online, in colors and a font one normally associates with porn solicitations.

Of course, I knew before I even clicked on the e-mail that it was garbage, and that I was most likely submitting myself to a toxic grade of stupidity that might rot my brain, as the screename was a dead give-away. But out of curiosity and obligation to updating the material of this site, I decided to explore this new outlet of the retarded. After all, I had never seen this subject line. Maybe the idiots were actually getting smarter (as strange as that might sound). Inside the e-mail, among the primitive text on a black background, which AOL never uses, conforming to the red, white and blue color scheme with which it was spawned (yes, spawned), there was a link.

Becoming even more curious as to the origins of this idiotic e-mail I moused over the link to check its path and upon discovering that it led to a geocities site, most likely a free one, I knew immediately that it couldn't even begin to be a good scam because everyone knows that Yahoo is too crappy to support something like that. Before I proceeded on into the next phase of what is most likely the dumbest scam of all time, I decided to check the forwarding pattern. AOL users always use the chatroom member lists to obtain screenames to which to send their BS, and the names always appear in alphabetical order. The writer of this "scam", and yes, I will now use quotation marks because it has become apparent that this couldn't possibly be a true scam, jumped from letter to letter in the alphabet in a menial attempt to disguise the fact that he had obviously used the above method of gaining screenames.

Having established the stupidity of the said writer, I then proceeded onto the next link, which led me to a page on which an AOL standard layout was pasted to appear authentic. It instructed me to enter my screename and password in order to recieve my prize. (Here is where I am consumed by unceasing laughter.) I won't even explain why this particular part is so amusing to me. If you don't understand why the stupidity of this whole operation was so blatantly stupid, you should leave this site for your own good.

To top it all off, at the top of the fake AOL navigation bar, there was a button that supposedly led to an AOL download...of AOL 5.0, which, if you don't use AOL, I should remind you, is two versions old. Need I say more? I don't think so.

CITA'S WORLD

May 5, 2002

I don't expect all of our readers to be entirely familiar with Cita's World of BET, and I consider that a good thing. The show, hosted by an animated 3d character by the name of Cita, is a disgrace to television. That's pretty bad, considering that television is currently dominated by such series as The Real World on MTV, and Dawson's Creek on the WB.

What makes me hate this show so much that I decide to rant about it to people who hopefully have no idea what I'm talking about? It has no entertainment value at all whatsoever to anyone. Even Dawson's Creek has a substancial fan base, the knowledge of which has baffled me for years. BET's target viewing audience, African-Americans obviously, hate the show in an overwhelming majority.

The host of the show is beyond ghetto. Ghetto would be a compliment in this particular case. Her dialect is atrocious and her actions as a whole are overly irritating. Cita represents African-Americans more incorrectly than even MTV. I hope my readers never have the misfortune of being subjected to viewing this trash.
